The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) is a private, non-profit, charitable organization sponsored by the Department of the Navy to provide aid to active and retired Navy and Marine Corps service members, their families and survivors in time of need.
Areas of Service: Financial assistance focused on alleviating temporary hardship; Quick Assist Loans to active duty personnel for up to $500; budget counseling; a Visiting Nurse who is available to meet with clients in their homes for a full range of medical questions and issues; giving junior sea bags and blankets for newborns to expectant or new parents of all grades; referrals to other military or community service organizations; and operation of a Thrift Shop. Besides repayment of no-interest loans, all services are free.
Financial aid (interest free loans when the service member has the capability to repay, grants when appropriate, or a combination of both) is provided in emergency situations for:
o Basic living expenses (food, shelter and utilities)
o Emergency transportation
o Funeral expenses
o Emergency vehicle repairs
o Medical and dental expenses (patient's share)
o Personal needs when pay is disrupted
o Individual home disasters
This is not an all-inclusive list of services and clients are encouraged to discuss specific needs with a caseworker. No appointments are required, but clients should bring military ID and an LES.
Location and Hours:
NMCRS Office is located in the Navy Family Support Complex at Smokey Point, Bldg. 13910, Rm. 829.
Hours of operation are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday - Friday.
NMCRS Thrift Shop is located in the same building and run by volunteers.
Hours of operation are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
