Capt. Jason Sherman relieved Rear Adm. Mark Sucato as Commander, Navy Region Northwest (NRNW) in a change of command ceremony Monday, June 30 on Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor.
Adm. Steve “Web” Koehler, commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, presided over the ceremony and served as the guest speaker.
Sucato served as Region Commander since May 12, 2022, and was awarded the Legion of Merit during the ceremony for all he accomplished during his time in command. This includes effectively engaging with various stakeholders and community representatives, prudently managing finances during challenging fiscal years, ensuring continued operation and improvement of critical infrastructure and services, developing a robust Mission Assurance Assessment process, and fostering a collaborative environment that’s essential for successful response to emergencies.
Sucato is retiring from the Navy later this summer after more than 30 years of service.
Sherman has been serving as the Chief of Staff to Commander, Navy Region Northwest, since February 2024. Prior to Navy Region Northwest, he served in numerous helicopter squadrons and made several extended overseas deployments. Sherman’s assignments also include U.S. Southern Command Strategy, Plans and Policy Directorate, and command of Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach and Navy Munitions Command Pacific CONUS West Division.
NRNW encompasses the eleven-state area of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa.
