Navy aircraft mishap clean-up efforts continue in Idaho

02 June 2026

From CNRNW PAO

The Navy’s recovery and response efforts following the May 17 aircraft mishap during an airshow at Mountain Home Air Force Base required a portion of Highway 167 in Idaho to be closed temporarily for the public’s safety and to facilitate access for response crews. The Navy team completed aircraft wreckage removal and is working as quickly as possible while remaining deliberate and careful in their efforts to remove potentially hazardous materials from the roadway and surrounding landscape.

The clean-up effort is nearing completion. The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has approved backfilling of the site, allowing contractors to begin repaving the highway. The Navy anticipates the highway will be reopened within two weeks, pending paving contractor scheduling.

The Navy knows this clean-up effort and road closure is impacting the community and thanks the community for their understanding throughout this work. The Navy also thanks state and local agencies for their assistance.
