Captain Jason J. Sherman

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Capt. Jason Sherman is a 1997 graduate of Ohio State University and received his commission through Ohio State’s NROTC Program. He was designated a Naval Aviator in February 1999.

Operationally, he has served in numerous helicopter squadrons flying the SH-60B/F/H and the MH-60R/S Seahawk. His fleet assignments include the Grandmasters of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 46 (HSL-46); the Saberhawks of HSL-47, and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 77 (HSM-77); Helicopter Operations Officer, Carrier Air Wing Two (CVW-2); and Operations Officer, USS George Washington (CVN-73).  He commanded the world-famous Proud Warriors of HSM-72.

He has made several extended deployments supporting Standing Naval Forces Atlantic, Standing Naval Forces Mediterranean, Operations Noble Eagle, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and New Dawn.

Ashore, Sherman’s assignments include instructor pilot with the west coast Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS), the Seahawks of HSL-41; U.S. Southern Command J5 Strategy, Plans, and Policy Directorate; Lead Theater Campaign Planner.  He commanded Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach and Navy Munitions Command Pacific CONUS West Division.

Sherman is a Navy Rotary Wing Weapons School graduate and completed JPME Phase I through the Air Force Command and Staff College distance learning program.  Sherman earned a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies and JPME Phase II credit from the US Naval War College, distinguishing himself as the Honor Graduate and graduating with highest distinction.

In February 2024, Sherman assumed the role of Chief of Staff to Commander, Navy Region Northwest.

He is entitled to wear the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other unit commendations and service medals. He has accumulated over 3,200 flight hours and over 1,000 small deck landings.
