Naval Air Station Whidbey Island is a major contributor to the regional economy of Island and Skagit counties. The base is the largest employer by a factor of ten in a four-county area according the Island County Economic Development Council. The installation generates economic stimulus in the form of good -paying jobs, demand for housing and consumer products, expenditures for supplies and operational services, and related economic activities that ripple through a wide range of economic sectors.
